Responsible Investment Spanish Version

As one of the most important Asset Managers in Mexico, we seek to promote the best sustainability practices in the market through the implementation of Responsible Investment into our investment processes. That is why, since March 2017, we are signatories of the Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI).

We make available to our clients and stakeholders the 2023 Operadora de Fondos Responsible Investment Annual Report (only available in Spanish), which provides valuable information on our current practices and strategies, as well as the results achieved in responsible investment matters. Our report is prepared in accordance with GRI standards and reports SASB standards for the asset management and custody activities sector. Additionally, the report addresses our commitment as signatories of the PRI.

At Banorte, we define Responsible Investment as the incorporation of Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) factors in the investment processes, since they are fundamental in investment decision-making, as they represent risks and opportunities for the financial sector.

Some of the criteria that are considered important for each factor are listed below:

Environmental factors Social Factors Corporate Governance Factors
  • Biodiversity
  • Land use
  • Greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions
  • Climate change
  • Energy use
  • Waste management
  • Water management
  • Community engagement
  • Customer relations
  • Products and responsible marketing
  • Human capital management
  • Human rights
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Labor standards
  • Relations with unions
  • Structure and size of the Board of Directors
  • Duality of the CEO
  • Senior management compensation schemes
  • Ownership structure
  • Rights of the shareholders
  • Voting procedures
  • Transparency
  • Anti-corruption measures

We have developed an internal methodology based on a transparency analysis of the ESG factors of the issuers that make up each of Banorte's managed portfolios, as well as an assessment of their reputational risk. Based on these results, we actively engage with the issuers so as to improve their ESG performance.

Additionally, in order to know our indirect carbon footprint, we measure the scope 3 emissions associated with the listed equity holdings according to the GHG Protocol methodology.

Likewise, within the mutual funds managed by Banorte Asset Management, there is an equity fund whose investment strategy is generated through a quantitative model that, among other factors, uses ESG factors within a positive screening.
